The Opera Dress with Christine HaynesEvery girl needs a fancy dress in her wardrobe, so why not make one that's completely customized to your tastes? This stylish frock features a figure flattering sewn-in belt in the Japanese obi style, which can also be worn in a sweet bow. You will learn skills in pattern reading, gathering and basting as you create your dress. Please bring 3 yards of 45" wide light or medium weight cotton or linen fabric (or a blend of these fabrics) and a copy of Chic & Simple Sewing (which contains the dress pattern). You may purchase the book (and fabric) at Home Ec. with a 15% student discount. Students must either have previously taken Sewing 101/Intro to Sewing or have basic knowledge of machine sewing, ironing, and construction. Your instructor is local designer Christine Haynes, author of Chic & Simple Sewing. Class happens on two consecutive Tuesdays, March 2 and 9, from 7-10pm.
