Knock It Off: Patternmaking with Susanna SchickAs a highly-sought patternmaker, Susanna Schick spent over a decade helping some of New York and LA’s biggest names in fashion (such as Isaac Mizrahi) bring their visions to life. Here she poses backstage in 2001 with one of her favorite knock-offs. Betsey Johnson rented the original version of this showgirl costume from The Paper Bag Princess and Susanna copied it and adapted it without so much as a pencil mark on the original. She brings this invaluable “trick of the trade” exclusively to the students at Home Ec.! This is your chance to recreate your wardrobe favorites without having to injure them.
This class will also cover the basics of pattern construction and students will be able to complete a paper pattern replicated from the garment they bring. Please bring a fairly simple item of clothing you would like to recreate, such as a beloved skirt of pair of pants. Sewing 101 or equivalent experience is a prerequisite. All supplies are included. Your instructor is Susanna Schick. This two-session class happens Friday, June 18 from 7-10pm and Saturday, June 19 from 11am-2pm. |
