alphabetembroidery

Embroidery is one of our favorite crafts here at Home Ec., it’s just so versatile. I love the simple beauty of this embroidered alphabet mini-quilt from Orange Flower: Sketchbook. Visit their blog for a step-by-step tutorial showing how you can make your own. Wouldn’t this be a great decoration for a nursery or kid’s room?

Welcome to Home Ec.!

Hello and welcome to the Home Ec. blog. This is where we’ll be sharing our favorite crafty links and tips, running crafter Q + As, test-driving new products we’re carrying, and sharing project ideas and tutorials. We welcome your comments and hope you’ll stick around!

On the last Friday of every month, we host an Open House craft night for all the folks in our community. Customers and friends stop by and bring in whatever they happen to be working on, be it embroidery or crochet or collage. We do snacks potluck-style (we’re still talking about the aebleskivers one of our students brought back in March!) and it’s always a fun time. Mark your calendars for the next one, happening May 29!

I made this little stuffed snail at our meet-up last week. I used a Wee Wonderfuls “Hand-Sewing for Fun” pattern card to make him, and used a yard of vintage fabric from our collection for the braided shell. It was really simple and fun to make and I’m totally looking forward to tackling more projects from the line. (PS: We call him “Speedy”.)
